It was all about math during the annual Math 24 challenge at Bald Eagle Area School District. The annual tournament allows participating students in elementary and middle school to create the number 24 by using a series of given numbers. The event is created based on the 24 Game.

The team from Mountaintop Area Elementary School included students Isaac Bulles, Ian Valimont, Kyle Watson and Mya Young. Teacher Nicole Thompson said "they made significant improvements in just a few months in both speed and accuracy in solving each 24 card and had fun doing it."

Practice for them began after school in March, and continued once a week leading up to the competition in May. They practiced strategy and problem-solving methods, along with playing time. They also ended each session with a timed mini tournament, Thompson added.

Middle school place winners
Semifinals: Hunter Ishler, Joshua Saldana and Lilly Nyman
Finals: Lilly Nyman placed first in her grade level
