Wingate Elementary

Welcome to Wingate Elementary!
The Wingate Elementary School is the largest of the four elementary schools in the Bald Eagle Area School District and currently houses approximately 391 regular education and special needs students.  The program includes three full-day Kindergarten classes. Each grade level in grades one through five is comprised of three classrooms, with the exception of Grade Two, which is comprised of four classrooms.  There are also four learning support classrooms.

A comprehensive curricular program for students at Wingate encompasses the Pennsylvania Standards for Reading, Writing, and Mathematics, in addition to Social Studies, Science and Health.  Itinerant teachers specialize in Art, Music and Physical Education.  The students attend these classes for 50 minutes each per six day cycle.  Instrumental lessons are available for students in grades four through six.  Each classroom at Wingate has at least one computer and a lab containing 24 computers with Internet access.  The Wingate library has more than 17,000 titles, periodicals, and reference materials.  A full-time librarian provides instruction to the students on the use of the library.  The Accelerated Reader program is coordinated though the library system.

A Reading Recovery program and a gifted educational program are offered for those students who meet the criteria established by the school district and the state. A trained Reading Recovery teacher works individually with first grade students and assists with Guided Reading in the primary classrooms.  An itinerant teacher of the gifted students works in small groups and individually with students both in and out of the regular classroom.

The Wingate School benefits from strong community involvement.  An active PTA organization provides a variety of services for students and teachers and supports the overall educational programs at Wingate.  Local community organizations use the school facilities after school to sponsor various activities that involve the elementary children.
