The National Wrestling Hall of Fame on Tuesday announced the state winners of the Tricia Saunders High School Excellence Award. The award recognizes the nation's most outstanding senior female wrestlers. From PA, Grace Stem was the winner of this prestigious award.

This announcement is to let you know that students in grades 10-12 will be participating in a mock accident assembly at the high school on Tuesday morning (May 10). As part of this assembly, there will be a large presence of emergency vehicles and equipment in the high school parking lot. We want to assure you that this is part of a planned event and not an actual emergency.

Dear BEA Community: Last night, the BEA Board had a special meeting to approve my resignation. My last day with the district will be April 1. I have had health issues for a while now and I was hopeful things were getting better prior to Christmas. However, things have progressively gotten worse and I had to make the very difficult decision to resign my position as Superintendent of Schools. The stress of the pandemic was a major factor in exasperating my health issues. I made the decision last week to resign because I did not feel I could adequately do the job the way it needs to be done while having severe migraine headaches. I felt it was in the district's and my best interest to make this decision. Right now, I need to focus on my health and hopefully get some relief. I want to thank the Board, administration, faculty, staff, parents, students and the community for the opportunity to serve as Superintendent of Schools with the Bald Eagle Area School District. While there were many difficult days, especially maneuvering through the pandemic, it was a very rewarding experience. I feel blessed to have had this opportunity and I have offered the Board my assistance as the district transitions to a new superintendent. I wish nothing but the best for the district moving forward. I am confident the district will attract quality candidates to be the new superintendent because BEA has an excellent reputation not only locally, but across the state of Pennsylvania. One of my favorite things to do is read to elementary students. I am hopeful as restrictions continue to be lifted that I will have the opportunity to continue to do that as a volunteer. While this was not the way I envisioned my tenure at BEA ending, I am honored that I had the opportunity to lead the district. Sincerely, Scott V Graham Superintendent

From the CDC: Federal Transportation Mask Requirement is now eliminated. “Effective February 25, 2022, CDC does not require wearing of masks on buses or vans operated by public or private school systems, including early care and education/child care programs.”

Dear BEA Community: By now, many of you have heard that the state is dropping the mask mandate by June 28. This is excellent news! While the state says schools and businesses can still require masks, once the mandate is in effect, our district will not be requiring anyone to wear masks on school transportation, property, or events. This definitely is a huge step to getting us back to a normal routine as summer programs occur and the new school year begins in August. Dear BEA Community: I have been monitoring the weather closely today. We are under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 8:00 p.m. Looking at future radars it appears the rain will be out of our area around 7:30 p.m. Therefore, graduation start time will be moved back to 8:00 p.m. If it takes longer to get everyone in the stadium, we will wait accordingly. Attention parents of students in grades 3 through 8. Monday, April19th is the start of the Language Arts PSSA Exam. This year all students in the district will be testing on their Chromebooks. In the past, computers were left at school to charge. However, this year is different, and we are asking for your help! Please remind and ensure that your student charges their computer this evening and prior to leaving for school Monday morning. This will ensure that your child’s exam will not be interrupted because of battery issues. Thank you for your help and have a great week!

Dear BEA Community: Here is an update on our Covid cases throughout the district. Currently there are 5 cases at the MS/HS over the past two weeks. Wingate Elementary has had 2 cases, while Howard, Mountaintop, and Port Matilda have zero cases. We have several staff quarantined because they were close contacts to positive cases. Dear BEA Community: This is a reminder that the 2 hour delay scheduled for Monday, April 12 has been cancelled. School will begin at the usual time. The final two delays scheduled for April 26 and May 10 will still occur as planned. Last night, the Board approved opening the track and tennis courts on weekends through the end of the school year. We are working on times and Mr. Dyke will be getting that information out to everyone. I will be updating you on our Covid cases for the week later today or over the weekend. Thank you, Scott V. A message from Mr. Graham. Dear BEA Community: I wanted to give you the weekly update on Covid cases. This week we had one positive case district-wide and that was at Port Matilda. Again, I want to express my sincere thanks to everyone for doing your part to help us keep the virus out of the schools. From Saturday through Tuesday, 110 administrators,faculty, staff, coaches and bus contractors will receive their Covid vaccinations. Additionally, 46 faculty, staff, coaches, and bus contractors will receive their second vaccine this upcoming week. Including those who have been vaccinated on their own, we will have more than 160 of our employees and bus drivers vaccinated by the end of next week.
